What Do My Friends and I Do on the Playground?
The playground is the best part of the school day! As soon as the recess bell rings, we race out the doors and onto the blacktop. There's so much to do and never enough time to do it all.
My friend Emma and I usually start by playing on the swings. We pump our legs back and forth, trying to go higher and higher. \"Look how high I'm going!\" Emma will shout. I'll pump even harder to try and get higher than her. The swings make me feel like I'm flying through the air!
After the swings, we might go down the big twisty slide. We wait our turn in line, then climb all the way up to the top platform. I get a little nervous being up so high, but it's worth it for the thrill of the slide down. We go zooming down at top speed with our arms up in the air, screaming with excitement.
If the monkey bars aren't too crowded, we'll take a turn crossing them. It's really hard! My arms get so tired about halfway across. I don't have enough upper body strength yet to make it all the way. Emma can do it though - she's a monkey bars master!
When we get hot from running around, we'll take a break and play hopscotch or four square on the painted court areas. Hopscotch is my favorite - I love tossing the rock and hopping through the squares. In four square, you have to be careful or you'll get ousted from the game.
After we've had a snack and caught our breath, it's time for the main event - the fields! This is where we can really run around wildly and burn off all our kid energy. We play tag, build forts from the woodchip piles, or kick a soccer ball around. Sometimes a big group of us will play capture the flag, splitting into two teams. We try to strategize about the best hiding spots for our flag and how to sneak into the other team's territory. It always dissolves into chaos with lots of laughing and running every which way.
Before we know it, the end of recess bell is ringing. We have to line up and head back inside, disappointed that our free play time is over. \"Just think, we only have a few hours until the next
recess!\" I'll say to Emma. The playground is our kingdom and we can't wait to return.
Those carefree days of recess on the playground were some of the happiest times. Running, jumping, climbing, laughing with your best friends - that's what being a kid is all about. No responsibilities, no worries, just pure fun and abandoning yourself to the joy of play. I miss those days and wish I could go back and relive them, if only for an afternoon.

What My Classmates Do on the Playground
The playground is the best part of the school day! As soon as the bell rings for recess, my classmates and I race out the door and onto the playground. It's a huge area with lots of fun things to do.
Some of my friends head straight for the swing set. They'll wait in line, then pump their legs back and forth to go higher and higher. I like swinging too, but I have to be careful not to spin around and get dizzy. One time Jack spun around so much he fell right off the swing! He wasn't hurt, but we all laughed at him.
Then there's the jungle gym, which is like a big colorful maze of bars and platforms to climb on. The older kids sometimes sit on the very top, but I'm not brave enough for that yet. I stick to the lower levels where it's not so high up. My friend Emily is a great climber though, she can skyswat the monkeys on the top bars!
A favorite for me and some others is the seesaw. We'll take turns, two of us on each end, going up and down. When you're on the ground it feels like you could jump up to the sky! Sometimes we even sing songs back and forth to each other while seesawing.
For the kids who like to run around, there's the big open field in the middle of the playground. They'll chase each other or play tag or jump rope. Others bring balls or frisbees to toss around. I'm not very good at catching, so I avoid those games. Around the edges of the playground are the quieter activities. Some kids just sit on the benches and read books or talk with friends. Others play quieter games like jacks or marbles or cat's cradle with string. Even though it's active recess time, it's okay to have some calm too.
The most popular part of the playground is probably the big twisty slide! There's always a long line waiting to climb up and
slide down. I love the feeling of zooming down the slide so fast. Once my shoe even fell off at the bottom from going so quickly! But it's a soft rubbery surface, so no one ever gets hurt.
Whether climbing, running, swinging, sliding, or just relaxing with friends, the playground has something for everyone. We make the most of our daily recess to play and have fun. No wonder we all look forward to it so much! The playground is our favorite part of the school day for sure.

What We Do on the Playground
The playground is the best part of school! There's so much fun stuff to do out there. When the bell rings for recess, we all race out the door and down the hall. We can't wait to get outside and play.
First thing, I always look for my best friends Emily and Jack. We're the three musketeers and do everything together at recess. Sometimes it takes a little while to find them in the huge crowd of kids. The playground is like a crazy circus when we all come pouring out!
Once we're all together, we first head straight for the swings. We love seeing who can go the highest and jump off at just the right moment. The swings are definitely my favorite. I could swing on them all day if they'd let me!
After some good swing time, we might go over to the jungle gym and climb all over it. We pretend it's a castle or a ship or whatever we want that day. We're really good at using our imagination. Sometimes the jungle gym turns into a battlefield too and the boys have pretend sword fights with stick! The big playground has some cool slides too. I don't go down the super tall one anymore since I fell off it once and got a horrible scratch. But the other slides are awesome for racing down over and over. You have to be careful though because some kids like to crowd around the bottom. We've all gotten scorched by the hot metal slides on sunny days!
When we get tired of running around, we walking over to the sandbox for calmer play. We love digging roads and rivers, then making little buildings along them. Last week I made the most excellent sand castle and even put seashells all around the outer wall. Playing in the sandbox is my second favorite after the swings.
At other times, we'll grab a ball and head to the basketball court or open field. We don't really play real basketball or sports. We just make up our own running games with the ball, like scenarios where we have to run away from lava or monsters. One time the field became the Old West and we had a huge epic cowboy showdown battle. Using our imagination is half the fun! If it's a pretty day, you might find me laying on the grassy hill, staring up at the clouds and watching them change shape. My friends and I try to find cooloddshapes in the clouds, like dragons or aliens or stuff like that. The clouds are so peaceful and nice. Sometimes I just like to relax and rest a bit after a hard morning of learning.
Towards the end of recess, we're getting pretty hot and sweaty from all the playing. That's when we'll go over to the water fountains and take long, satisfying drinks. That cold water is heaven after you've been running around so much!
As the bell rings to come back inside, we're always sad that recess is over. We linger and look back longingly at the playground. School would be no fun at all if we couldn't come outside and release all our pent-up energy. I just love the playground and recess so much. It's my favorite part of every day!
I can't wait to grow up and have a house with a big backyard just like the playground.

What My Classmates Do on the Playground
The playground is the best place at school! When the bell rings for recess, we all race outside to have fun and play games. I love watching what my classmates get up to out there.
Tommy and his gang always go straight to the soccer field. They are obsessed with soccer and play it every single recess. Tommy is the team captain and directs everyone where to go. He's really good at dribbling the ball between his feet. Sometimes the games get a bit heated when there's a disagreement over a foul, but they always make up after.
Sarah and her friends prefer to hang out by the jungle gym. They spend ages just climbing, hanging upside down, and shrieking loudly. I'm not sure why they find it so fun, but they have a great time. Sometimes they make up crazy games with lots of creative rules that I can never follow.
Peter is the jump rope king! He brings in these massively long jump ropes and gets the biggest groups going. He
coordinates the crazy moves like double unders and cross overs. The rest of us just tangle ourselves up, but Peter makes it look effortless.
Chloe is talented at every hand clapping, foot stomping, singing game. She moves lightning fast during \"Miss Mary Mack\" and doesn't miss a beat. A circle always forms around her at recess to watch.
Jacob and Alex love nothing more than digging in the sandpit or mud. They emerge utterly filthy but with huge grins, having built fortresses and cities. They don't seem to mind getting dirty at all.
The four-square court is where you'll find Timmy. He rules that area and picks the teams carefully. The players move quickly, calling out \"Square!\" when the ball enters their quadrant. You have to be fast to play Timmy's games!
Sometimes, I just wander and watch everyone having fun in their own ways. We're all so different and have such varying interests. I love that about my class - there's something for everyone out on the playground!

On the Playground
Recess is the best time of day! When the bell rings, we all race out to the playground. There's so much to do and see out there. My friends and I love running around and playing games together.
The first place I always go is over to the swing sets. I love pumping my legs back and forth to soar up high towards the sky. The swings let me feel like I'm flying! Sometimes, my friend Timmy and I have contests to see who can jump off the farthest. Right next to the swings are the monkey bars. They look easy, but they're actually really hard! I can never make it across without falling. My arms get so tired. But Billy is a master - he can go across and back without stopping. I don't know how he does it!
In the corner of the playground is the big sandy area for the diggers. All the kids who love getting dirty head over there. They use shovels and rakes to build sandcastles and dig big holes. Sometimes they even bury each other up to their necks! Then they have to be dug out by their friends. It looks like a lot of fun, but I don't like getting sand in my clothes.
The most popular place is definitely the big playground structure right in the middle. It's a huge maze of ramps, platforms, tunnels and slides! Everybody races around going up and down, in and out. You never know where someone will pop out next. It's easy to get lost in there! Sometimes there are long lines to go down the twisty slides. Those are my favorite part. Over in the field, there are always games of kickball or soccer happening. All the really athletic kids join in those games. I'm not very good at sports, so I usually watch from the sidelines and cheer. Though sometimes a stray ball comes my way and I get to kick it!
Near the kickball games, there's a four square court drawn in the ground with chalk. That's where my friends Lily and Emma love to play. Four square looks simple but it has a lot of rules about where to stand, how to serve, and rotating positions. The games can get pretty intense!
Around the edges of the playground, some kids just sit or wander around talking and hanging out. Sometimes they pick flowers or catch bugs in cups. They like to chill out and take it easy for recess.
At the end of recess, my teacher Ms. James blows her whistle to call everyone back over to line up. We all groan because we
never want to stop playing! But we have to head back inside for class. I'm always hot and sweaty and tired. Recess is great exercise!
As I walk back, I look around at my friends and classmates. Some are covered in dirt from the sandbox. Others have grass stains on their clothes from falling down. A few kids are still catching their breath from running around so much. Despite being messy and worn out, we all have big smiles. The
playground is our favorite place because we get to run free, be kids, and just play. What could be better than that? I can't wait for tomorrow's recess!

What We Do on the Playground
The playground is the best place at school! It's where we get to run, jump, play games, and have lots of fun with our friends. There's always something exciting happening on the playground.
During recess, my favorite thing to do is play tag with my buddies. We run around chasing each other, trying not to get caught. Sometimes I'm \"it\" and sometimes my friend Jessica is
\"it.\" When you're \"ithey become \"it\" instead of you. It's so much fun!
Other times, we play hopscotch or jump rope on the blacktop. Hopscotch is cool because you get to hop on one foot in the chalked squares. Jump rope is really hard though. I can only jump a few times before I mess up and trip over the rope. My friend Michael is really good at jump rope. He can do all kinds of fancy tricks!
In the field area, there's lots of space to run around and play kickball or soccer. I'm not very good at sports, but I still like trying. Sometimes the ball goes really far and we all race to go get it. Once, it went over the fence and we couldn't find it! There are also swings, seesaws, and monkey bars on the playground. The monkey bars are my favorite because you can hang upside down and climb across like a little monkey. The seesaws are scary though. I'm always afraid I'll get stuck up in the air if my friend gets off!
During hot days, we run through the sprinklers to cool off and get soaked. The teachers yell at us, but we just laugh and keep running through the water. It feels so nice and refreshing when it's super hot outside.
At the end of recess, we have to line up and go back inside for class. That's the worst part of the playground – having to leave and go back to work! I wish we could just stay out there all day long. Recess goes by way too fast.
After school, some of us get to stay and play on the playground for a little bit if our parents are running late to pick us up. That's the best because then we can really take our time and play whatever games we want without being rushed. Overall, the playground is a wonderful place full of excitement, games, and friendship. We look forward to recess every single day because we know we'll get to experience the pure joy and freedom of the playground. I can't wait until I'm a grown-up so I can build the most awesome playground ever! A kid could only dream of such an amazing play place. The playground truly is where the magic happens.
