灵签是什么
灵签是指一般指寺庙或道观中，存放在签筒中的用竹木条做成的标有签号的占卜工具。一般求得签后，将签交付僧（道）“释签”。“释签”为有偿服务，所得收入用于修缮寺庙道观。
抽取灵签一般是摇动签筒待竹签自己跳出或直接抽取竹签，然后对应求得竹签的签号找到相应的签诗，根据签诗的等级和内容预测吉凶祸福和处理事物的方向。释签完毕后，求签人一般买鞭炮庆喜或驱邪。
求签的历史
求签活动开始于什么时候，具体年月巳很难确定。根据西元九世纪间的《玉壶清话》记载：五代时的一位宰相卢多逊，曾在年幼时到云阳观取得一签，而后来应验一事；另在唐代的益州，相传一位称为闭珊居集的乌蛮族术士，曾用49枝细竹片来占卜吉凶。由于卢多逊生于后唐，他幼时废坛上已有签筒；加上闭珊居集的流传，由此推断求签的活动最迟巳出现于后唐。
